A woman in profile, head bowed and eyes closed, against a black ground. The light falls on her face, neck and bare shoulder, with a single pale highlight low on the chest. Blonde hair catches the light at the crown. The rest holds in shadow. I built the figure up in thin layers, keeping the edges soft so the form turns gradually into the dark. The aim was to let the light carry the whole picture and give the black room to do its work.
