Limes Study

Limes in a woven basket against a black ground. Whole fruit sits piled in the basket, a halved lime propped at the back, another cut half resting on the surface in front. The greens are worked against the dark to push the fruit forward. I painted the light hard and direct, picking out the highlights on the skins and the pale flesh of the cut sections. The basketwork is built up in short strokes, warm against the cool fruit.
