Blue and Red Study

A whitewashed cottage with a stone wall sits low against the sea, set off to the right. The sky takes up most of the canvas, worked in greys that shift towards black. The white walls and the line of surf carry the only real light. I built the sky in thin, blended layers to keep it heavy and soft. The cottage I painted with thicker strokes, leaving the texture visible. The whole thing is kept tonal, with no colour pulling against the grey.
