Hungry Ox

A horned animal skull set against a dark red-brown ground. The skull sits low and to the right, with one horn sweeping the full width of the canvas. Light catches the bone and the ridged horn; the rest falls into shadow. I worked the horn with thick, broken strokes to pick up the ridges and texture. The skull is built in cooler greys and whites. I kept the background flat and dark so the form holds the light.
