Common questions
- The recipe does not match my paint exactly. Why?
- Iris predicts a mix from a model of how pigments behave, and every stage between the subject and your palette shifts colour: the camera, the light in the photograph, your screen, and the particular batch of paint in your tube. Treat a recipe as a well-judged starting point and finish by eye — that is how the match is meant to be used.
- What does ΔE mean?
- It is a measure of how different two colours look, scored using CIEDE2000, the current international standard. Roughly 1 is the smallest difference a trained eye can detect, and anything under about 2 is an excellent match. Lower is closer.
- Iris says a colour is beyond my palette.
- A limited palette cannot reach every colour — that is a fact about paint, not a fault in the app. Iris shows you the nearest mix it can make and says so plainly. With Iris Pro it will also suggest the single tube that would bring the match closest.
- My colours look wrong on screen.
- Colour can only be judged on a bright, steady display. Turn your brightness up, and switch off True Tone, Night Shift and Auto-Brightness in Settings → Display & Brightness so the screen does not drift as the light in your room changes. Iris will prompt you if it detects a dimmed screen.
- How do I restore my subscription on a new device?
- Open the Iris Pro screen and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with. If nothing is found, check that you are signed in to the right account in Settings.
- How do I cancel?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Iris. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Do my photographs leave my phone?
- No. Everything Iris does happens on your device. There are no accounts, no uploads, no analytics and no tracking. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
